I recently asked a retired friend how he liked retirement, and he said "I'm not bored yet". I thought that was such an odd way to put it. But after talking to others that have been retired a while it seems to be a recurring theme. There is a lot of time to fill and many people seem to be having trouble keeping busy.
I read an interesting blog post about time management in retirement on Satisfying Retirement Blogspot. The crux of it is the need to figure out what to do with all the extra time that is available in retirement.
I wonder if one problem is that when we retire we also lose the goals that keep us moving. Maybe that's evidence that we need to actively work to substitute new goals in retirement.
We could be helping schools, volunteering for community organizations, getting involved in local government, and a million other things. There is so much that needs to be done, and an army of retirees who finally have time to do things might be just the ticket to making amazing things happen.
